Notebooks engraved with your own words
Personalised A5 vegan-leather notebooks, £17.99
Some things are worth saying at length. These put a sentence on the cover where a name would usually go. Set a phrase in whichever of our faces suits it, at whatever size, in as many boxes as you need. Pick three words to follow "Be" and have their initials in the corner. Shuffle through lines about getting on with it until one sounds like them. Or say a few words about the person and we will write them a short poem, which you can rewrite line by line before anything is engraved. And one of them is not on the front at all: a single short line in the bottom corner of the BACK, small enough that somebody has to go looking for it. If what you want to write is a definition, the dictionary entries do that shape properly.
A sentence printed onto a cover is a sentence that can rub off it. These are cut into the hide by a laser in-house, at the weight the typeface was drawn, which is why a long line still reads at arm's length. Everything here is your own writing, so the preview matters more on this page than anywhere else on the site: set the words, watch them redraw, change your mind, and only then pay. What happens next is the same for all of them.

Know whether you are writing it or borrowing it
That is really the only question this page asks. If you already have the sentence, your own words takes it in whichever of our faces suits it, at whatever size, in as many boxes as the line needs, and does nothing clever to it. If you have the feeling but not the words, the shuffled covers hand you a starting point you can type straight over: three words that each begin with Be, a line about getting on with it, or something you would not say in front of your nan. And if you would rather stand behind somebody who wrote it better, the borrowed quotes come with the name of whoever wrote them and are drawn only from work that is out of copyright, so nothing gets misattributed into leather.
How long a line can be before it stops working
Short lines engrave large and read across a room; long ones have to come down in size to fit, and the honest advice is to write the sentence, look at the preview, and then cut it rather than shrink it. A cover carrying one clause is a cover somebody reads. A cover carrying a paragraph is a cover somebody means to read. The poem is the exception and it is written for the shape: you tell us a few things about the person, we write them a short poem, and you rewrite it line by line until it sounds like you rather than like us, all before anything is engraved.
The one that is not on the front at all
The quietest thing on this page puts a single short line in the bottom corner of the BACK of the book, small enough that somebody has to go looking for it. It offers no second text box and no shuffle button, and that restraint is the product: a cover you can pile three more lines onto is not a secret. Buy it when the message is for one person and the notebook is going to be carried into rooms full of other people. Everything else on this page is the opposite bargain, which is worth knowing before you choose: these are covers that say something out loud, and somebody at the next desk is going to read it.
